S58 unlocking: G80 M3, G82 M4 and G87 M2

The cars we built this service around, and what actually happens during the appointment.

The S58 is BMW M's current 3.0 twin-turbo six, and it is the engine we set this service up around. It ships locked, so nothing writes to it until the unlock is done — no matter which tuning platform you have already paid for.

Which cars

These are on the DME8 generation, which is supported. That is worth stating plainly because the Gen 3 B58 is on the newer DME9 and is not — the naming is unhelpfully similar and people conflate them. The S68 V8 is on DME9 too; that one we can do, but it is a different job, done off-site.

What happens at the appointment

We come to the car rather than the other way round. The unit is not removed, not boxed up and not posted anywhere — it stays bolted in your engine bay from start to finish, which is the part most people are surprised by.

We do not publish connector positions or the software workflow. That is the part you are paying for, and publishing it helps nobody who is actually booking.

Afterwards

The DME accepts flashes over OBD from then on. If you have booked the flash as well, we stay while your first map loads so you leave with something working rather than a promise.

The licence pairs permanently to your specific unit. If that same DME ever needs unlocking again, there is no new licence to buy and you pay a fraction of the original price.

Warranty

An M car under factory warranty is exactly the case where this deserves thought. Unlocking and anything you flash afterwards may void it, BMW can detect modified control units, and we will not tell you otherwise to win a booking.
